What happens on school camp

A few weeks ago room 4 had to write 3 explanations in 2-3 weeks. One of the topics was "what happens at school camp". Here is mine.

What happens at school camp

Camp is a time for kids to chill, have fun and learn lots of new things. They go to camp to experience things about ancient places, their country and all round to have fun. School camps allow kids to work with nature, their education and have fun with friends.

At our school, us year 6, 7 and 8 all go on a school trip. To a fun theme park or an educational walk. Like Tane Matuta, a marae and an adrenaline pumping time at Rainbows End. This year at camp we are going to Adrenaline Adventure Park in Whangarei.

Before going to camp we all have to load up in one van or in multiple vans. To pack for camp, we need the basics. Toothbrush, toothpaste, and a hairbrush. But in our case, Adrenalin Adventure Park is a water park. So we need lots of togs. School camp is a time to spend with friends. We get to spend time outside talking and playing.

Camp is to be free from the full-on schedule at home and school. School camp makes kids use team management. To build, make and create something cool. If we're outside we can experiment with huts, building things and bonding with classmates and friends.

At camp gives us kids and adults needed free time to play. Camp is living where kids can relax, laugh, and be silly all day long.

Hiwi The Kiwi story

On Friday the 13th of September. Hiwi the Kiwi came to our school. He performed songs and shared stories. In the songs, he told us lessons on how to fish and how to be safe. Back at school, we could write a narrative using 2+ lessons that he taught us. Here is mine...

Windy waters

It was one stormy day. “Boom, crash” the waves crashed on the sandy shore at  Ahipara. Me and mum suggested we stay home by the warm crackling fire. But dad, oh dad just had to go out. We loaded our boat onto the windy waters. “Swish, swash” the boat rocked. “Woah” dad ran over to the other side of the boat. “Erkkk.” The boat creaked. Off we went, me and mum feeling like we were going to be sick. We all remembered our life jackets on a day like this. We cast our fishing line, me and mum still feeling nauseous. “I’ve got one yelled dad!” We excitedly ran over. Dad moaned and groaned trying to get this fish out. “Ah-ha.” It flipped and wiggled all over the deck. Dad pulled out the ruler. He was about to pick it up with his bare hands. I quickly stopped him. “You need to use a cold wet cloth to pick it up with dad.” He questioned my comment. “All right then”, he measured the fish, still with a wet cloth wrapped around it. “26 only 26!!!” Dad yelled. “Better get a good one soon.” After hours of waiting, feeling sick and catching no good-sized fish, Mum finally got one. She pulled and tugged on the rod. It felt like years after she got it in. “This one's a big one” I said. Without questioning dad carefully threw it back. “Hey, why did you do that yelled” mum madly. “It was pregnant” said, dad. “We want more kaimoana for years to come, don't we, that’s why we put it back.” We gathered up our gear and headed home. “What a day,” I said “what a day”!
